St. Simon and St. Jucle are "weatntf saints," who are supposed to bring lieavy rain. Allusion to the certainty of/' ra !jj on Simon and Jude" are plentiful in old plays. ' Holinshed records that on the eve o£ this anniversary, in 1536, when * battle was about to be fought between the troops of Henry VIII. and the YorK* shire insurgents, "there fell so heavy rain that it could not take place. ,.
