TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS.
CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON. CONDOLENCE OF GOVERNMENT.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, in addressing the conference called to consider ways and means of reducing traffic accidents, expressed, on behalf of the Government, condolence with the relatives of those killed in the Christchurch accident. Mr. Veitch said he would not like it thought that the level crossing was the only source, or even the principal source, of danger.. He believed that unorganised and uncontrolled traffic on the main roads was the principal cause of accidents. Level crossings were by no means the chief clanger or consideration. Every one of the dangers must be carefully and seriously considered and weighed in the balance, in deciding how to minimise accidents.
