AUCKLAND'S BUTTER YIELD.
The official dairy returns for the month of May have now been published, and they should prove a welcome corrective to the pessimistic tone too frequently adopted both by farmers and the general public in regard to the country's prospects in the butter inai'ket. The figures for the past 11 months show an increase of more than 17 per cent over the corresponding period ior last year in volume of output; while for May alone the increase, computed on the same basis, is nearly 14 per cent. It is true that prices have fallen in the interval. But after allowance is duly made for this, the r increased output has meant a return to < Auckland dairy farmers of nearly £400,000 in excess of their receipts last year. These facts : and figures must be highly encouraging to the , dairy farmers themselves. But they should also be appreciated by the "general public as welcome testimony to the splendid productive ( capacity of Auckland district, and they should i help to allay the existing uneasiness and i anxiety in business circles and to .strengthen the' general confidence in our industrial and . financial future. 1
