SOUP KITCHEN TO BE OPENED.
HELP FOR NEEDY FAMILIES.

DUNEDIN, Tuesday,
A proposal to start a soup kitchen in Dunedin for the relief of needy families .was discussed by the Mayor, Mi>R., S.; Black,, witli Captain A. E. Chandler,, olj the Solvation Army. . . \ '■ The Mayor said to-day that; through • the generosity of Mr; R." M. Greenslade rthe -garage and kitchen of the old Com-; mercial ■ Travellers' Club inDowling. "Street had been made available. The garage, said the Mayor, would-be fitted out to accommodate 120 persons ■ waiting for their soup, and the corpora-, tion was fitting three 14-gallon-coppers in the kitchen and' attending to the electric lights. The Salvation Army would be invited to take part with the Citizens' Commit-tee-inorganising relief for the needy, and the soup kitchen would be conducted when occasion arose. The kitchen would be in operation during this week, and those taking advantage-would need to bring their own billies. Gifts of meat would.be valued.
