WRONG POLITICAL TACTICS.
Adversity is responsible for association with strange bedfellows. The "New Zealand Herald," champion of the discredited Reform Party, has been using the former organiser of the United Party as a cudgel with which to ,belabour. the Government. Mr. Pavy was for some years a prominent organiser of Reform, but for reasons that it is unnecessary to explore he and his employers parted company. No attempt was. made at the general election to exploit the differences between this militant fighter' and the then Government. There was ample scope for such an investigation, but the matter was considered as of no public interest. Mr. Davy became Dominion organiser for the United Party, and in its initial stages did very valuable work. Later he quarrelled with the party leaders, or they quarrelled with him—it is immaterial which —and he retired into private life and a measure of obscurity. From this position he has emerged on his own initiative, or at the solicitation of our morning contemporary, and his : ' condemnation of his former employers is being used in an endeavour to injure the Government. Mr. Davy s recent political history speaks for itself, and the public can be.left to place its own estimate of value on his views—if any. This much is certain —such methods of electioneering will find no support from the public, and are a remarkable disclosure of the weakness of the case for the Reform Party.
