FLUCTUATION IN SHARES. QUIET OPENING. BANKS START WEAK. The Stock Exchange reopened this morning after the Easter vacation with a full attendance. Proceedings were distinctly quiet, and following the last record of business in Australia the Banking section was distinctly weak. Tentative offers were made for most lines, but on a lower level than ruled before the holidays. Generally speaking, there was an a\r of caution throughout the call, and many lines were passed without quotation. The Noon Call. A few sales were completed after the first call and reported at noon with no alteration in previous values. Bidding was more general, but still far from active. Buyers for Nationals of Australasia, which has just announced an interim dividend at the usual rate, raised their offers from £14 8/6 at 10 a.m. to £14 10/, and £7 5/ is offered for the £5 paid. Commercials, on the other hand, slipped back 3d, and a guinea is now the best offer, the lowest recorded for many a year. Devonport Ferries have eased, with sellers at £1 2/9 and buyers £11/. Mount Lyells have dropped substantially. Best offer at noon was £1 7/6. against £1 12/ before Easter. There were no buyers for Eiectroiytic Zincs, which were offered at £1 6/9 for the ordinary and £1 10/6 for the preference. Buyers for New Zealand Breweries offered £2 12/9, with sellers at £2 14/. In Government loans buyers were at former quotations, with a parcel of 4% per cent Inscribed offered at £98 and one of 5Ws, 1933, at £99 7/6.
