LURE OF RACES.

MAN'S UNLAWFUL VISIT. SEEIST ST DETECTIVES. Leonard Augustus Mousley pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning to a'charge of being unlawfully on the Ellerslie racecourse on April 19. Detective Sergeant Kelly said that Detective Doyle and a racecourse inspector saw defendant in the Leger enclosure, about to make a bet at the "tote." He was ordered off, and went. Defendant had a criminal history. Last Saturday he was seen outside the Avondale course. Counsel for defendant said that since being on probation he had behaved well. His casual work had included driving a car to race meetings. "A racecourse is no place for a man who is on probation," said Mr. Hunt, in imposing a fine of £2.
