CHURCH SERVICES.

DAY OF REMEMBRANCE.

MANY UNITED GATHERINGS.

WIDESPREAD OBSERVANCE. Church services in connection with Anzac Day "were "well attended. Holy Communion was • celebrated at 7 a.m., and again at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Cathedral, Parnell; many parishioners who were bereaved during the war attended. The Rev. Canon Fancourt was the preacher at a special memorial service in the evening. There was a celebration of Holy Communion at St. Matthew's Church at 7 a.m., and at 11 o'clock a memorial service was conducted by the Rev. Grant Cowan, in the presence of a large congregation. The "Dead March" was played at the conclusion of the service, followed by the "Last Post." There was a solemn requiem celebration of the Holy Eucharist at St. Paul's, Symond's'Street, during the forenoon, the Rev. Cecil Watson being the celebrant. "Anzacs in Camp and on the Battlefield" was the title of an address given by the Rev. H. K. Vickery in St. Matthew's Hall in the evening. The address was illustrated with lantern slides, and was given in conjunction with a memorial service. The Auckland Hebrew Congregation remembered their soldier dead yesterday at a special service conducted at noon (by the Rev. S. A. Goldstein. Memories of Anzac, he said., should stimulate everyone to work side by side for the removal of the causes which led to war —inordinate lust of power, the setting up of false gods, false standards and false values. A united memorial service was held in the Mount Albert Presbyterian Church. The Rev. W. D. Morrison Sutherland was assisted by the Rev. John Laird, of the Mount Albert Baptist Church, and the address was given by the Rev. Angus Mcßean, of the Methodist Church. Among the crowded congregation were the Mayor of Mount> Albert, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, Mr. G. C. Munns, M.P., and councillors and members of the borough staff. Combined services were held at Otahuhu, Ellerslie, Epsom, Balmoral, Ponsonby and Manurewa. At a commemorative service in the Salvation Army Congress Hall, conducted by Brigadier Cottrill, several addresses were given, and a special feature was the trooping of colours and the laying of wreaths.
