CANADIAN DENIAL.

SELECT NATIVE IF DESIRED. (Received 12 noon.) OTTAWA, April 25. The Premier, Mr. Mackenzie King, on Friday denied that before the appointment of Lord Willingdon, lie sounded the British Government to see if it were possible to appoint a Canadian. A London cable, quoted the "Daily News" to the effect that the Premier had raised the point at the time of Lord Byng's retirement, and that Mr. L. M. S. Amery had informed the Canadian High Commissioner, Mr. P. C. Larlcin, that it would be impossible. The Premier" said he had exchanged no communications with Mr. Amery, but with Mr. Baldwin, The question of appointing a Canadian had not been raised, nor had it been since. The Premier said his position was that Canada had a right to select a Canadian. The prime requirement was that the person should be acceptable to the Canadian Government. The Premier commented that Canada had been fortunate in her appointments.
