GOLDEN WEDDING.
DARROCH—MEIKLEJOHN. Two residents of Devonport, Mr. and Mrs. David Mackay Darroch, celebrated the golden anniversary of their wedding to-day at their home Waterview Road, Stanley Bay. The wedding took place at Unionville, Big Omaha, on April 20, 1880. Mr. Darroch was the son of Mr. and-Mrs. James Watt Darroch, who arrived in 1842 from the Highlands of Scotland by the ship Jane Gifford. They were amongst the first settlers at Mahurangi, Mr. Darroch senior having a ship-building yard. Mr. D. M. Darroch was born at Mahurangi in 1859, and later learned ship-building under his father's training. Mrs. Darroch is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Meiklejohn. She was born at Prince Edward's Island, Canada, and when an infant 12 months old her parents went to Nova Scotia where, hearing of the settlement made at Waipu, Mr. Meiklejohn built a vessel and sailed to New Zealand, his twelve sons forming the crew. The Meiklejohn family ultimately settled in Omaha. Both Mrs. Darroch and her husband enjoy good health, and he is stili an enthusiastic yachtsman. There are six sons and six daughters. This evening a gathering' of relatives and friends is to be held to celebrate the anniversary.
