US BUDGETITES.
Although perhaps not faultless in so far as the qualities of good verse are concerned, the following poem by " Dulcy Bauman, 134, Bank Street, Whangarei, age 15, strikes an original note:— Yes, I met young Smith on Friday, Feeling sprightly as could be. He'll be eighty to-morrow, Which is ten years more: than me. We stood talking of old hist'ry, With a fine enjoyment, too; Smith said, "Do you mind the Budget, And its members?" "All, too true!" "It's their birthday, then, this Friday." "Yes, I've not forgotten that!" "Have you got a 'Star' there, cobber?" Down together, there we sat. Oh, we didn't half enjoy it, As we chuckled o'er tlie jokes.\ There was even Peter's letter To the children of our folks. "Ah, we're getting old," my friend said, "But I'd always lend a hand If the Chief was looking to us, For the sake of our old band!"
