A luncheon party was given at the Lyceum Club on Thursday by Mrs. C. Tucker, in honour of Miss Heather Bews, who is to be married early next week. The party was a reunion of members of the Girls' Realm, ami each presented the guest of honour with a bottle of conserve for her new home. Those present were:—Miss Ruby Furness, Miss Melville, Miss Thorold, Clerk, Miss Douglas, Miss Vera Ziman, Miss Mildred Lundon, Miss Daisy Slator, and Miss Ruth Waterhouse. • * * * The Ponsonby branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union met on Thursday afternoon in St." Stephen's Hall. Miss Read presided. A welcome was extended to Mrs. Lee Cowie, district president, who has just returned from Australk, after having assisted in the prohibition campaign in Victoria. Miss Read, who attended the Dominion convention in Timaru, as a delegate from the Ponsonby branch, gave a comprehensive report of the doings of the convention. The obstetrical endowment fund was increased at Avondale on Wednesday afternoon, when a garden fete was held at "Banwell Lodge," Church Street, Mrs. C. D. Grey's residence. The young people Of Belmijnt had an enjoyable evening on Thursday, When the ladies' guild Of St. Michael's Chtirch held a fancy dress dance aild party especially for them. Mr* C. Eaton decorated the hall with large orange shades for the lights, and a canopy of gaily coloured streamers, and Buckley's Orchestra played suitable music for the marches and "dances throughout the evening. The dresses were judged by Mrs. and Miss McFarland, who awarded first prize for children, 6 or ifnder, to Betty Blackwell as Dolly Vafden; to children, 12 dt Under, McFadgen as a. shepherdess; and to children over 12, Myra -Bowdoc as a Country Cottage. A kitchen evening was given by Miss Treraain, Church Street,. Northcote, in honour of Miss Nancy Robertson, who is to be married shortly. Dancing, competitions ancl games were held and won by Mrs. Crunmi, Miss J. Minns and Mr. Swinbank. Musical items were given by. Mesdames Wheatley and Hay, Misses Wlieatley and Minns, and elocutionary items by Mrs. Minns and Mr. Trewheeler. Miss Treniain received her guests dressed in navy crepe de chine. The guest of honour Wore primrose chenille georgette. About forty guests Were present, among them being: ,Mrs. Stevens (Gisborne), pale blue georgette- Mrs. D.
