SCHOOLBOY'S DEATH.
Hit BY CRICKET BALL. An inquest was held this afternoon at the Magistrate's Court by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., into the circumstances connected with the death of Arthur Desmond Whitley, aged 14 years, who, while playing cricket in a jiaddock nehr JRehiuera School, was struck on the side of the head with the ball. He went home, and later was attended by a doctor, but death took place the next day. Deceased Was the Boh of Mi-, and Mrs. R. S. Whitley, of No. 9, Vincent AvenUc, Remuera. Evidence was given by the boy with whom diseased Avas playing cricket, Who said Whitley was batting. Witness sent up a full ball, but it went to the right. Whitley stepped out, but Was hit on the side of the head by the ball. He said, "I will leave the bat with you," and went home. Dr. Laurie's evidence was thgat death Was due to laceration following upon a fracture of the skull. The coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the incdicai testimony, adding that it was a pure accident.
