TRANSACTIONS ON 'CHANGE.
BUSINESS STILL GOOD. CHIEF INTEREST IN BANKS. "Bank shares continue to attract most interest on the local Exchange, and a number of parcels have changed hands since the "Star" went to press yesterday. Under stress of a steady demand, prices are definitely firmer, though a sale of bank of Australasia at £14 2/6, compared with the last transaction at the' end of July, £14 13/, shows how the market has slipped in recent weeks. There is also a rather better tone in insurance scrip. Westport coals have moved up 3d, with buyers at £1 13/9, and inquiries are again being made for Northern Steam at 14/8. Breweries, too, are a shade firmer, with buyers at £4 6/6. The Noon Call. A fairly busy morning saw a number of fresh sales notified at the noon call, with quotations firm, and rates practically unaltered. A parcel of New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative debentures, 6% p.c, was offered at £97.
