WOMAN'S DEATH.
EVIDENCE OP POISON. INQUEST ADJOURNED. An inquest was opened by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., this morning in connection with the death of aieingle woman, Gertrude Boulton, aged 39 years, who died at the Auckland Hospital last evenino shortly after admission.
Evidence was given by Thomas Broadley Taylor that he had lived in the some house as deceased for the last eight years. They came from England in the same vessel. He had known Miss Boulton practically all his life. About 9.45 p.m. on the 28th instant Miss Bouiton. a friend, and witness had been sitting in the same room at 444, Queen Street. Mis 3 Boulton left the room to get supper, and about ten minutes afterwards called out, "Come down." He at once went to the kitchen, where he saw Miss Boulton on her knees. He said, "Oh. whatever'is the matter?" She replied, "Get me a drink, I have taken poison." She did not state whether it was an accident, in fact never spoke another word. Witness sent for a doctor, and pending his arrival, administered mustard and water. Deceased vomitted very little after taking the emetic. He found a bottle of disinfectant in the cupboard alongside one which had medicine in for Miss Boulton, who had suffered from asthma for the last 12 years. '
At this stage it was" decided to -adjourn the inquest- to a date to be fixed later.
