ONEHUNGA FATALITY.
INQUEST ON A. R. OLNEY. DEATH RESULT OF'ACCIDENT. An inquiry was made this morning by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., into circumstances connected with the death of Arnold Richard Olney, who met, with an accident at Onehunga on August 3 and died at the Auckland Hospital on August 9 from pneumonia. Mr. Shrewsbury watched proceedings on behalf of relatives of deceased.
Evidence was given by Dr. Duncan Murdoch that death was due to pneumonia, the man having sustained a fractured skull in a motor accident. Other evidence was given that Olney was a married man, 57, years of.age. He was a trackman for'the tramways and was cleaning the points at Robins corner. In stepping -back to avoid an approaching ca# he apparently slipped and was struck ■by one of the wheels. James Smith, driver df~the car, said Olney was between the rails and when he saw the vehicle approaching apparently slipped when getting out of the way. Witness applied the brakes, but Olney was struck by one of the wheels.
Mli Hunt said it seemed to him that death/was tie result of an unfortunate accident. A verdict was accordingly returned that.death was dire to a fractured skull, the result of being accidentally, hit by a car.
