STRANGE ADVENTURE.
Woman Who Drifted 30 Hours In North Sea. FALL FROM A LINER. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) PARIS, August 28. Miss Gloria MacAllister, who claims to have been born in Australia, figured in an amazing episode. She was found in a semi-conscious condition on the beach at Montalivet. She told the gendarmes she had been in the water for 30 hours.
She said she left Newcastle on Satur : day, on a ship that was going tc Shanghai' as a stewardess. She felt ill after Sunday night's festivities, and went on deck. . She fell from the railing as the ship lurched. She caught hold of a piece of tintber, and floated all the night and throughout Monday. At dawn on Tuesday she saw Cordran lighthouse. She swam toward it, but the current ca—ied her 20 miles to the south.
The gendarmes believe lier, but pilots and fishermen are sceptical. They say her steamer passed five miles from the coast, and that the currents bear to the north, not the south. Further, a rowing boat was seen off the shore last night. Inquiries are being continued into the matter.
