MR. ANDREW WEST.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVILLE, Saturday. The death ocurred suddenly at Piako on Thursday, of Mr. Andrew West, at the age of 77 years. He. was born at Banff, Scotland, and at the age of 24 years went to Australia, where he made his home for 19 years. A shipwright by trade, Mr. West made South Australia his headquarters, though he made frequent cruises in Australian waters in pursuit of his occupation. It was ii Australia that he married, and shortly after the death of his wife, he removed to New Zealand. West purchased a bush farm at Palmersjton. Northj which he brought into cultivation, then sold-and took his family to live at Stratford. After 13 years' residence in this district, where he followed farming, pursuits, 1 Mr. West came to the Thames Valley, where he purchased a. property, at Eastport Road, Waitoa. This holding was farmed for seven years Disposing of this property, Mr. West afterwards lived a retired life. "A singularly keen liking for travelling took Mr. West to many quarters of the world. During his sojourn in Australia he was afforded opportunities of seeing most parts of the continent, while he travelled extensively in England and Europe. Even after his retirement he undertook a trip to the British Isles and to Australia. This latter mission.held a quality of romance, as it resulted in his locating his. son, Mr. R. West, reported to have been killed at the war. Mr. West,.senior, had. always,.since,his son was- reported among the , missing, cherished the belief that the boy,-though now a grown man, was still alive, and his-successful mission had a happy culmination. - .■'■'! .:'.' In his younger' days Mr. West was very fond of yachting and rowing. He built several, eight-oar. skiffs while in Australia,.and coached their crews. West, of Australia, and one daughter, Mrs. Blackford, of Elstow. Te Aroha. There are-seven grandchildren. ' ;
