AVONDALE JOCKEY CLUB.

DISTANCE OF CUP REDUCED,

THE PROGRAMME ISSUED

The programme has been issued by the Avondale Jockey Club for the new season, and, as forecasted by the president, Mr. D. McLeod, in his annual address, stakes have had to be reduced. However, despite the reductions, the stakes are still most attractive, and sliould ensure large fields. For the spring meeting the stakes for the Maiden Plate, 200sovs, remain the same, but the Kingsland Hurdles has been reduced from 250sovs to 20030V3. The money for the Members' Handicap is still 25050 v?, but the Avondale Cup has been reduced from 1200sovs to 900sovs. The winner will now receive 600sovs as against 900sovs, but the place money, 200sovs for second horse and lOOsovs for third, is unaltered. The distance will be one mile and aquarter, against one mile and a-half. The nomination, acceptance fee, etc., has been lowered by 3sovs. The sum of 500sovs has been allocated to the Avondale Stakes, against 750sovs last year. The prize money for the Flying Stakes and Henderson Handicap remain as formerly, but the Swanspn Handicap has been reduced- from 25Qsovs to 200sovs. On the second day the Plumpton Handicap and the Avondale Guineas have both been lowered by 250sovs, making the prize money GOOsovs and 750?0vs respectively. The Grey Lynn Hurdle Race, Nursery Handicap, Mount Albert Handicap, and the New Lynn Handicap have been reduced 50sovs each, but the President's Handicap (500sovs) and Nihotupu Handicap (2oosovs) remain the same. Prior to tiie autumn meeting last April the club, was compelled to reduce the stakes in all event? with the exception of the All-aged Stakes, 750sovs. The amount for this event is now oOOsovs; otherwise, there is no alteration hi the amounts compared with those raced for at the last meeting.
