SUPER-TAX ON CRICKET.
CITY COUNCIL'S RAKE-OFF.
A WELLINGTON PROBLEM.
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")
WELLINGTON, this day.
A deputation from the Wellington Gricket Association waited on the Re- J. serves Committee of the City Council yesterday regarding reduction in charges for the Basin Reserve, which were stated to be £643 annually, or 66 per cent of the total receipts for ground, although it was used by Soccer, hockey, and amateur athletic associations. The Cricket Association had provided £100 worth of forms ten years ago, which had been at the constant disposal of the council, and eight years ago bad brought soil from Dunedin and Napier, not only for pitches at the Basin Reserve, but those of other grounds. The charges were stated to be 10 per cent of the gate receipts, and 50 per cent of the stand takings. In eight years the association had only shown a profit on two seasons, and their reserve had dwindled from £1273 to £845. The matter is to be considered by the committee, which has undertaken to go carefully into the whole position.
