EARTHQUAKE VICTIM.
SETTLER DIES IN HOSPITAL,
ORDEAL IN BACK COUNTRY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WESTPORT, Monday. The death took place in the district hospital to-day of Mr. Frad Patz, aged 52 years, of Corbyvale. Mr. Patz had a most trying time during the earthquakes, when he was working in the back country. He bore visible effects of his ordeal when he reached the town. He gave a vivid account of the damage done during the disaster, stating that portions of the mountains were flung fully half a mile away. Sir. Patz served in the war with the Ninth Reinforcements. He contributed many articles on topical subjects to New Zealand and Australian newspapers. His deatli was due to heart trouble accelerated by the earthquake.
