UNEMPLOYMENT LOAN.

PROPOSED FOR OTAHUHU. At the meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council last evening the matter of providing work for the unemployed ratepayers of the borough was introduced. Mr. G. V. Pearce, who is chairman of the Works Committee, stated that since he had occupied the position he had been requested to find work for a considerable number of men. With the shortage of borough funds it was impossible to do any more than what was being done at present. He therefore moved that an application be made to the Government for an unemployment loan of £1000, to be spent on work in the borough involving as much labour as possible, so as to enable a subsidy of fl for £1 being obtained. Mr. Petrie seconded the motion, and it was proposed to circularise the ratepayers to ascertain if they are favourable to a loan. If the answer is in the afiirmative, application for the loan will be made immediately.
