FARMERS CO-OPERATE.
CHAIRMAN OPTIMISTIC.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, this day.
The ninth annual meeting of the New Zealand Producers' Co-operative Marketing Association was held last night, Mr. E. Harding (Hawke's Bay) presiding. The chairman stated that the turnover for the year amounted to one and a-half millions sterling. He believed the fight of the future would be between capital and co-operation, and, given loyalty, the latter must win. A striking illustration was the Co-operative Wholesale Society of Britain, which, starting with a few members, now had six millions. This society really fed half the population of England and Wales.
Speaking of the possibilities of pork in England, Mr. Harding said that for hja own shipment he received 8d per lb when New Zealand factories were offering 4d. Mr. Harding 6aid he thought they were on the' eve of an era of stable prices Me*sre. W. L. Harkness (Taranaki), W. Fisher (Wellington) and J. H. Stubbs (Auckland) were re-elected directors.
