QUEEN CARNIVAL CROWNED.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

WHAKATANE, Thursday,

The Mayor of Whakatane, Mr. W. Sullivan, in the presence of between 600 and 700 people, last evening crowned the carnival queen, Miss Jean Hall (country), who was attended by Misses Sybil Hamilton and Iva Gunn, maids of honour, and Josephine Ramson and Pearl Smedley, train-bearers. The Mayor thanked the queen candidates and all workers for the services they had rendered, which had resulted in £860 being raised toward putting the Winter Show Association on a sound financial footing.
