BODY FOUND IN RIVER

An inquest was held this morning into the death of Mrs. Vazey, a married woman, who disappeared from her home on Monday last. Henry Edward Vazey, farmer, of Woodlands, identified the body of his , wife, and said he last saw her alive early on Monday afternoon. On returnipg home later he found her missing. Immediately he went to the river at the bottom of the farm, where he found •n apron on a fence near the bank. His wife's state of health seemed bright compared with what it had been. She had been laid up about five weeks previously with a nervous breakdown. She had been in a mental hospital seven years ago, and had since had mental attacks every year. He had searched every day for the body, which he found early this morning on the Waiotahi Beach. . „ In reply to * question by the coroner, witness stated that while in the mental hospital his wife had been considered a suicidal caee. Her mental condition led him to believe that she drowned herself. Mr. F. J. Short, district coroner, gave the verdict that Mrs. Vazey met her death by drowning, there being no evidence to show how she got into the water.
