An afternoon party was given by Mrs. r'J^ neeT t, 1 her home in T *fcapun» on Tuesday afternoon, the guest of honour being, Mrs. Martin L. Wilkine, who is leaving shortly for England. To receive the guests Mrs. Upton wore a black and gold frock, and Mrs. Leys was in a Wack and apricot crepe de chine frock, with black me hat. Among those present were: Mrs. H. E. The. Opotiki Women'* Institute held a garden party at Mrs. J. Main's residence on Saturday lost. This was open to the public and a o;ood number attended. There were several competitions; namely, croquet, won by Mrs -J. Talbot: clock <rolf, won by Mrs! Forbes; bag. throwing, in which Mrs. AVwth won the prize, and, miniature rifle ehootinrj, in which Mrs. Cooper and Master h'wen Merry were victors. The beautifully decorated cake" made and donated by Mrs. Walter Scott was won hy Mr. C. Clark. Mr«. McAlister-carried off the snowball presented by Mrs. Maruicano, and Mrs. T. Burke won the raffia tray. Miu. Talbot, ae « fortune teller,;;wae a rentre of attraction. The icp creem β-tall was managed by Miaaee Kl/* Fleming, Nina Kemp, ami Leila Clark, and was well patronked. A charming farewell gathering took place this afternoon in honour of Mrs. OeoTge Walker, who leaves on Friday week for England, travelling via, Sydney. It was held at the home of Miss Anita Webster, Shelly Beach Road, and Mrs. Walker'e sister, Miss Adean, and Miss Hills were also gueets of honour. The rooms were prettily decorated with red dahlias and carnations, and progressive bridge was pjayed. To deceive her guests Miss Webeter wore a pinkensemble with a pink bridge coat to match; Mrg. Webeter was in black eilk lace; and Mrs. Walker, in a black ensemble euit. The guests were: Mrs. Dodds, Mrs. A. Davte, Mrs. H*rt, Mrs. Irwin, Mrs. Nello Porter. Mrs. Graham, Mrs. Allan, Mrs. Sydney Robertson, Mrs. Mills Palmer. Mrs. Copeland, Mrs. H. Adean, Miss Porter, Mrs. Schneideman, Mies Palmer, Miss Adean, Miss Hills and Mrs. A. Goldwater.
A successful evening; in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Maisie Chalmers,*Vas held at the home of Miss Eleanor Adeane, Wallace Street, Heme Bay, on Tuesday evening. Many useful gifts were received, and the evening was pleasantly whiled away with musical Items by Mrs. Gallagher, Mr. Peterson, and Miss R. Adeane, dancing having its usual place on the programme. Asters in various, colours were used as the main floral decorations, and together with the many shades of the ladies' frocks made .a pretty scene in the black and goM lounge. Miss E. Adeane, who received the guests, wore a charming frock of black chiffon velvet, relieved with silver trimmings. She was ably assisted by Miss M. Chalmers, who looked very sweet in cyclamen crepe de chine. Amongst the guests were: Mrs. J. Chalmers, navy satin and georgette; Mrs. Cooper, Oriental crepe de chine; Mr*. J, 'S. Adeane, fawn and navy crepe de chine; Mrs. Howe, green brocade ••tin; Mrs. Sherry, boii de rose crepe de chine, with diamante trimmings; Miss E. Chalmers, pillar box georgette; Miss Bennie, duchess blue georgette; Miss Town, flame beaded georgette; Mrs. Gallagher, lacquer red panne velvet; Miss R. Ashdowne, black satin Oriental trimming; Mies Wharton, puce chiffon velvet; Mieg Daysh, maroon georgette; Miss R. Adeane, cyclamen georgette; Miss E. Armiger, orange crepe de chine; Misg P. Adeane, black eatin; Miea E. Burgees, pink georgette, guipure lace; Miss Boatswain, shell pink taffeta; Miss Glen Burgees, cyclamen panne velvet.
