HANDLING ELSIE WALKER CASE.

2000 PERSONAL INTERVIEWS. DETECTIVE SERGEANT KELLY EXPLAINS. INVESTIGATIONS ON THE SPOT. iNQUIRY RESUMES ON MONDAY. Proceedings before the Police Commission this morning dragged heavily. Evidence was largely confined to facts calculated to establish that the police methods used during the initial stages of the investigations into the Elsie Walker mystery were thorough in every detail. It was estimated, on a conservative basis, that personal interviews in the Otahuhu sub-district alone ran into two thousand. In addition inquiries were even carried on to the racecourse, and were still being pursued. Sergeant Kelly, who was responsible for the early supervision of the case, continued his evidence, interrupted two days ago in order that medical testimony might be taken. He was still on the witness stand when the inquiry was adjourned at noon till Monday morning.
