JOLLY GAMES.

FIRE 0N T THE MOUNTAINS. This is a quiet game, and can be played by any number of children. Two rings of players are formed, one outside the other, and both have the same number of players. Someone who is not in either of the circles is chosen to stand in the centre of the inner circle, and cries:— '•Fire on the mountain —you must run, run!" The players on the outside run round as quickly as possible, while the rest sit still. The running round is continued until the player«jin the centre cries, "Stop!" Immediately everyone, including the player in the centre, tries to find a place behind one of the inner ring. The person who is left has to take his turn in the centre. When placing the rings, it is better to leave a fairly large space between them.
