IDLE LANDS.
LARGE AREA AT WAIBL VISIT BY COMMISSIONER. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) WAIHI, UUi d*y. The Commissioner of Crown Landi, Mr. Graham and Mr. Campbell, of the Afforestation Department, are in W*iW to-day in connection with the action of the borough council in urging that large tracts of idle lands along the WaiM» Whanganiata Road be thrown open, for settlement. At the last meeting of the council the Mayor said he understood that about 10,000 acres were invoked. The borough engineer (Mr. Hazard) said that when the Forestry Department w« first formed it was wished to conserw all standing forest countrv and all the portions that had not been takw Wf were marked off. In the present case, however, the greater portion had no forest on it at all, while on other parts there was no milling timber. Tfci» land responded very well to treatment
