ROYALTY AT FAIR.
DOMINIONS FAVOURED
Queen Deceived By N.Z. Lamb Exhibit. AN ATTRACTIVE STALL. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 19. Although the Queen, the Prince of Wales and Prince George spent two hours traversing the six miles of avenues at the British Industries Fair they found it impossible collectively to inspect all the stalls within that time. Therefore they agreed to divide forces, the Queen taking one side, and the Princes the opposite. This arrangement was varied to favour the Dominions and Colonies. The result was that Australia, Canada and New Zealand unexpectedly received a prolonged inspection by both the Prince of Wales and the Queen. Special attention was paid to Australia, where they were received by Mr. Hyland, who explained the schemes for popularising Australian products. The Prince of Wales said that from independent sources he had learned that Australia was doing exceptionally good work in that direction. The Queen commended the shrewdness of the Australian stallholders in selling wopenny samples of sultanas and butter, thereby cheaply popularising the products. Mr. Drew, the publicity officer for New Zealand, received the members of the Eoyal Family, who were impressed with the lighting scheme which gave the effect of sunshine and warmth in contrast to the bitter weather. The Queen particularly inspected and praised a series of New Zealand view 9, but was deceived by a fine display of New Zealand lamb.
"They must keep well this cold weather," she remarked, and laughed heartily when told that the carcases were wax.
The Queen purchased an ash tray for the King and also a gold fitted case containing an opera glass, powder puff, lip stick, mirror and comb, concerning which she remarked": "It will do for the Duchess of York." The Queen's purchases for Princess Elizabeth were dolls and a folding pram.
