HOSPITAL BOARD.
SUBSIDIES FOR DOCTORS. The Auckland Hospital Board met yestorday afternoon, the chairman (Mr. Wm. Wallace) presiding. It was decided to reply to a letter from the Mercer Town Board, which requested a subsidy for .1 Pukekohe doctor who visited the town, that as other doctore also visited Mercer the board could not grant the request. A communication was received from the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association asking for assistance in forming a scheme to provide employment for ex-servicemen who found it difficult to earn their living. The chairman remarked that the subject was not in the scope of the board's activities. He moved that the letter be received. This was recorded and carried unanimously. It was decided to refer the matter of the Auckland City Council Employees* Sick and Accident Society's request for similar terms as friendly societies, to the finance Committee for report. At the request of the Rev. Jasper Calder it was resolved to donate £5 towards the purchase of books for the hospital library.
