LOCAL BODIES.

MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD. A meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board was held last night, Mr. E. F. Jones presiding over a full attendance of members. New Road.—Mr. E. Cullen agreed to provide a road reserve 20 feet wide along the northern boundary of his subdivision. This met with the board's approval. Road Repairs.—The engineer estimated the cost of metalling the intersection of Mount Albert and Ilillsboro' Roads, and two coats of bitumen at £75. The matter was held over until the next meeting of the board, as they are awaiting a reply from the Main Highways Board about concreting Mount Albert Road. Mount Albert Road.—The chairman reported that the Main Highways Board had inspected Mount Albeit Road recently, and a reply to the representatives of Mount Roskill tor the concreting of the road is expected towards the end of this week. Landscape Road.—The board declined to agree to the proposal of the Auckland Uity Council to the work of repair and kerbiug of Landscape Road, which is a boundary road, being done at once by the council. The council offered to do the work and allow Mount Roskill to pay its portion of cost when funds are available. Dominion Road.—Mr. J. Dawson reported that the extension of Dominion Road to Richardson Road, through Winstone Park estate, was approaching the stage for concreting, and he asked the board's permission to engage a clerk of works to supervise the concrete work. Mr. C. Betteridge was appointed to the position at £6 a week.

Wesley Training College.—When the property at Three Kings, belonging to the Wesley Training College is cut up for subdivision, the reserves on the estate will be transferred to the Mount Roskill Road Board. Information to that effect was received by the Road Board.

Proposed Loan.—The chairman moved, and it was agreed "That the board apply to the Government Loans Board for its sanction to borrow £62,000 for the purpose of providing a combined sewerage system for blocks 80 to 91, inclusive, and blocks 116 to 125, inclusive, in the western area of Mount Roskill." The clerk reported that no objection had been received to the proposal.

NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The fortnightly meeting of tho Northcote Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor (Mr. A. E. Greenelade; presided. Water Reticulation.—The provision of a large water main in Stafford Road between Queen Street and Richmond Avenue Ls to 'be made at once to imiprove the pressure for fire-fighting purposes ia that locality. Cricket Ground.—Notices are to be posted in the municipal recreation ground prohibiting cycling on the cricket outfield while gamee are in progress. Vehicular Ferry Service.—The council is to co-operate with the Birkenhead Council in urging the desirability of extending the evening service of. the Birkenhead and Northeote vehicular ferry, in view of the fact that the main highway is now oipen to Waiwera, and an evening service would be appreciated by a large number of motorists. Equal charges for vehicles on the run between the city and Birken'head and Northeote with those to Devonport are also to be asked for. Transport Board.—A suggestion by the Ratepayers' Association that a transport board should be created in lieu of the No. 2 Licensing Authority was referred to Mr A. Harris, M.P. Onepoto Traffic Bridge.—A communication from Meeere. Harrison and Griereon, surveyors, intimated that the contractor, Mr. W. Winter, had completed the traffic bridge over the Onepoto Stream, thus providing motor vehicle access from Gordon Road to the Waiman Estate. Council gave official approval of the bridge. Poet Office.—The Postmaster-General, the Hon. Jas. B. Donald, wrote that the erection of th-e Poet Office would be put -in hand a* early ae poeeible.
