HAMILTON WATER SUPPLY. RESERVOIRS AND FILTERS. SMALL VOTE RECORDED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON*, this day. The ratepayers of the borough yesterday carried a proposal to raise a loan of £40,670 for the purpose of providing an additional pumping station, increased reservoir capacity, improved filters, and an extension of the reticulation service. Voting was as follows:— For the proposal ......... 707 Against 572 Majority 135 Forty-two declaration votes will have to be certified before being counted. There were 48t>0 names oh the roll. The loan represents an amount of £40,670, made up as follows; Erection of a pumping station and intake, £1500; purchase and erection of plant to treat the water for bacteria and sediment. £2250; purchase and erection of four Candy filters, including the cost of rearranging the filters already in use, £2750; reticulation improvements, £0170: construction of high level reservoirs, £25,000.
The loan is for a term of 30 years, and the rate of interest will be tij per cent (including a sinking fund of 14 per cent), the annual charge to the ratepayers being £2755.
