CAPTAIN COOK.

MEMORIAL IN CHRISTCHURCH APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A statue is to be erected in Christchurch as a memorial to Captain James Cook. The site will probably be on the grass plot opposite the Limes Hospital, on the banks of the Avon, in the city area. This decision was reached at a public meeting which was held at the Citv Council Chamber, following an offer by Mr. XL F. Barnett to present £500 towards the funds for such a memorial. An appeal is to be made to the public to subscribe the remaining funds.
