HAWKPS BAY LANDS.
MINISTER MUCH IMPRESSED. HAXGAROA RAILWAY ROUTE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WAIROA (H. 8.), this day. The Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, accompanied by Messrs. J. B. Thompson (Under-Secretary), J. G. Thomson and E. H. Farnie (Commissioners of Crown Lands for Napier and Gisborne respectively), arrived at Wairoa last evening. The Minister received numerous deputations, mostly concerning the urgent need for closer settlement in this district. Mr. Forbes wa« impressed by what he had seen and heard. He promised to assist with any suitable lands which were available. Afterwards the Minister was entertained at a smoke concert, which was largely attended by members of local bodies and leading citizens. The Ministerial party visits to-day various soldier settlement.*, and goes on to Waikaremoana. The Minister leaver for fJisborne to-morrow morning by way of the Hangaroa railway route.
