GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

CANTERBURY MARKETS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Wheat is inclined to be weaker ard sales have taken place at 5/7 a bushel on trucks for Tuscan. Farmers are now offering fairly heavily and some are piepared to accept the easier quotations rather than wait tor a hardening. The bulk of the samples coming to hand are up to milling grade. The warm, drying weather of the past fortnight has hardened up the grain, and the proportion ot immature stuff in future samples is likely to be substantially reduced. Fowl wheat is quoted at o/aVs, f.0.b., sacks extra, for prompt delivery, and 5/7 for spread.

Oats have eased further since the weekend, and sales of A grade Gartons have been made at 3/4, f.0.b., s.i., and B grade at 3/1. Purchases have been made from farmers at 2/9 on trucks for A grade. Th.; absence of any outside outlet is depressing the market. Chaff, peas, cocksfoot, perennial ryegrass and clovers show no change from last week'i quotations. The ryegrass market is firm, but the absence of a northern demand is restricting speculation in all classes of small seeds As a rule at this period of the year speculation is fairly lively, but at the moment aa unusual quietness prevails Quotations for March-April remain at £4 17/6 a ton. but there is little business at this figure. On the other hand, inquiries from the North at £4 15/ have been received, but merchants cannot deal with farmers to allow a margin on this figure. Growers will not discuss any price less than £3 15/ on trucks. July-September deliveries are quoted at £5 15/ a ton, f.0.b., s.i. Onions are now commencing to come in and the quality is fairly good. From £5 10/ to £5 15/ on trucks is quoted for prompt deliveries, and £5 for main crop.
