Mr. E. G. Skeates. Mayor of Birkenhead, with Mrs. Skeates and hi* youngest son, Mr. E. Skeates, left by the Marama yesterday afternoon, en route for England. Prior to their departure, a committee representing the vesVlents of Birkenhead, presented Mr. Skeates with a New Zealand rug. which the spokes-. man, Mr. Jas. P. McPhail, a former Mayor, hoped would be serviceable and serve as a reminder of the warm-hearted regard of the Birkenhead people for Mr. and Mrs. Skeates. The work of Mr. Skeates for the district as Mayor and member of the Borough Council and associated activities for a lengthy term was much appreciated, and regret was general that Mr. and Mrs. Skeates were departing from their midst. All wished them good fortune in the Old Land, but hoped for their return to New Zealand.
