TOO MUCH WATER.
CONSUMERS AT MORRINSVILLE
NEW CHARGE ADOPTED
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
MORRINSVILLE, Friday
A tabulated schedule of the quantity of water used by consumers outside the Morrinsville borough since meters were installed was before the Borough Council last evening. The figures related in most cases to approximately a year's supply, for which a minimum fiat rate charge of £10 was made. The conditions agreed to when the meters were installed stipulated the payment of 1/6 per 1000 gallons used, but this clause was not enforced, and in practically all cases only the minimum of £10 was charged. The schedule showed that some suppliers should be paying as much as £60, and the majority were using more water than they were entitled to.
Mr. Reason said the Finance Committee had carefully considered the schedule, and recommended that from April 1, 1929, the charge for water supplied to these consumers be at the rate of 9d per 1000 gallons, with a minimum of £10 per annum.
The Mayor (Mr. W. McPherson) skid that by being charged for the water they used, the large consumers would regulate the consumption, while the revenue would be increased by this means. Economy would also be practised.
The recommendation was adopted.
