LANDING AT OREWA. CONGRATULATIONS FOR MEN

Territorial* of the First Battalion of the Auckland Regiment, who have been in camp at Narrow Neck, and part'c 1 - pated in the "hattlo" of Orewa, will

"break camp" to-day. At a prize-giviir ceremony !a*t evening they came in for congratulations on the cffiHency of their work at the landing.

Speaking to t«p men. Lieut.-Col. T. 11. Dawson, officer commanding the regiment, said he was highly satisfied at the results achieved by the camp, and the discipline that had resulted from it. Instancing the spirit of the men, he *aid that, at the landing, tney filed down the companionway and took their allot'ed place* in the boat* quickly and with perfect order. There w»i# no confiloioii, and every man submitted himself to the control of the naval authorities, with the result that everything went without a hitch. Commodore Swa bey's mmment on them had been that "no one would have realised the men were aboard."

Colonel Dawson spoke highly of the procedure in carrying out the. varous phases of the attack, and said it was apparent that the N.C.O'«. had complete control of their men. There was coordination between signallers, the telephone section, machine gunners, and infantry. He was proud of the battalion and was convinced that the spirit of Anzac still lived.
