WHANGAREI POLICE COURT.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Faced with a walk of 20 miles to his home at Titoki, Pahi Tipa, aged 18, removed a bicycle from in front of the Town Hall, where a picture programme was being screened. On arrival at his home he interchanged the wheels of his latest bicycle with those of another which he had picked up at Kokapu. He readily admitted the theft in the Police Court this morning, and he wa.s fined £1.

The senior-sergeant of police said that probation had not met with success among the Northern Maoris.
