INCREASE ON YEARLY TOTAL
MORE BOYS IN" TROUBLE.
A table of returns of criminal enee dealt with at the Auckland Magistrate's Court for the quarter ending on December 31 last shows a slight decrease on the quarter, but the yearly total shows a cons'd-jrable increase in ail classes of cases. For the quarter ended December 31 the eases dealt with were as follow: Adult persons arrested, males 700, compared with 987 for tlie corresponding period of 1927; dealt wich on summons 1747, compared with 1526 the previous year. During this quarter 63 females were arrested and 127 dealt with os summons, the figure* for vhe preceding quarter of 1927 being 71 and 117 respectively. A total of adult persons arrested for the quarter ending December 31,1927, shows 763, as against 1058 for the period the previous year. The figures concerning those dealt with on summons are 1874, making a grand total of 2637, as against 1643 and 2701 tl»« previous year's last quarter.
A noticeable Increase Is shown In juvenile cases. No less than 290 males were dealt with in this quarter and 12 females, compared with 77 and 15 for the same last quarter in 1927. For the quarter ended December 31 last there were 109 sittings of the Court held, three less for the corresponding period in 1927. Court fees paid amounted to £504 10/4, compared with £674 4/8, and fines paid £1667 7/, compared with £2370 3/6.
