SUPERINTENDENT RETURNS.
NEGOTIATIONS IN EAST,

WAIHI, this day. Mr. E. G. Banks, superintendent of the Waihi Gold Mining Company, has returned to Waihi. He has been absent in the East for almost a vear, investigating tin properties. The Waihi Company, in partnership with a Malay tin company, has paid a deposit of £10,000 in escrow on what appears to be a suitable tin prospect, but the purchase is subject to tlie* completion of valid titles, which may t;;ke several months.
Prior to returning again to the East, in the company's interests, next March or April, Mr. Banks will resume his old duties at the mine, examining its present position and reporting as to future policy, which he and the company executive recommend. Mr. H. W. Hopkins will in the meantime carry on executive dutise as acting-superintendent. It is understood that diamond drilling in the mine has now been discontinued the net result of such work having failed' to locate any new ore bodies, though the geological information obtained his been very valuable, and a decided contribution to scientific knowledge regarddistrict COUntry formations in the Waihi
