French Commissioner's Respect
For Leader. . " GREAT SERVANT OF GOD." (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 12.30 p.m.) v PARTS, January 22. Commissioner Peyron, head of the Salvation Army in France, who voted for General Booth's deposition, states: "There was never any question of tha general lacking in tact in his management of the Army finances or having accepted for himself and his family the gifts of emolument which were not permitted in the rules.
"There was no attack on his high moral probity or his profound business sense, and disinterestedness.
"General Booth leaves the Salvation Army a legacy of a pure and fine life. He was a great servant of God and humanity. ,If I asked that he be relieved of his post on account of his age and failing health, I still count myself a friend and disciple of General Booth."
IMPRESSIVE SCENE.
Burial Of Late Commissioner
Haines. TWO-MILE PROCESSION. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 12 noon.) LONDON, January 22. There was a most impressive gathering of the Salvation Army at the funeral of Commissioner Haines who succumbed to a heart attack at a High Council meeting when it was Stated that the High Court had granted an injunction restraiuing the carrying into effect of the resolution to depose General Booth.
It was the most' impressive since the burial of the Army founder. The Congress Hall at Clapton was crowded and the coffin was covered with a red flag. At each corner a Salvationist, with bowed head, held an Army standard.
All the commissioners were present, including Catherine and Mary Booth, who sat at Commissioner Higgins' right. There was a procession nearly two miles long to Abney Park Cemetery, where the first general was buried, thousands of Salvationists participating.
