A Clou Finish.
Seventeen paraded for the Apprentices' Plate, and Llanore ( £1720) was favourite, with Stanchion ( £1501) and Grand Acre ( £930) the next best backed. Paquito, Clarendon, Wine Tray, and Llanore were the most prominent at the start, but when a furlong had been covered Grand Acre was in charge from Llanore, Sylvan Dell, Clarendon, Topere, Filosol, and Wine Tray. Sylvan Dell was first to turn for home from Wine Tray, Swoopalong, Moorgae and Grand Acre. Moorgas and Grand Acre had a good battle to the pott, the former winning by a heda, Paquito being a length away, third, with Filosol, Stanchion, Hoi de Val, Llanore and Full Mark next.
