RECEPTION TO DELEGATES.

Bowls of fragrant carnations, gladioli, and cool green palms decorated the Pacific Club rooms last evening, when a reception to welcome Sir John Hewett and Mrs. St. John Atkinson was held by the Auckland Centre of the St. John Ambulance Association. Sir John Hewett and Mrs. St. John Atkinson have arrived in New Zealand to investigate the work being done by the Dominion unit of the Venera\»le Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. On arrival the guests were received by the Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell; Sir George Fowlds, vice-chairman of the association; Mr. C. J. Tunks, commis-

sioner; Mr. F. J. Hutchinson, senior district superintendent; and Mr. W. Rattray, hon. secretary. In a short speech, Mr. Tunks extended a cordial welcome to the visitors, and referred to the reason of .their visit to the Dominion. In replying, Sir John Hewett spoke of the duties he and Mrs. St. John Atkinson were called upon to perform whilst here, such as the holding of investitures and the inspecting of the foundations of the Order. He said that the Order was nourishing in England, in fact it had never flourished so well as it did at the present time, and both he and Mrs. St. John Atkinson had already found that splendid work w&s being done in Auckland. He hoped that he would find such excellent organisation throughout the rest of New Zealand. Amongst those who were present were: Mr*. St. John Atkinson, who wore a frock of deep rose georgette fashioned with skirt of graceful loose flares and drapings of georgette from the shoulder to the hem; Mrs. A. D. Campbell, wearing pastel pink georgette with crystal embroideries; Mrs. F. J. Hutchinson, rainbow tinted lace over pastel green georgette; Mrs. P. A. Lindsay, frock of jet sequins; Mrs. W. H. Parkes, jade green georgette with vandyked skirt of gold lace; Dr. Crawley, mulberry coloured crepe fleuri; Miss Winstone, jade green georgette with silver embroideries; Mrs. Cammell, black georgette and gold lace; Miss Lindsay, delphinium blue and lace; Mrs. C. H. Tewsley, black georgette and lace; Miss Mowbray, black georgette beaded in jet; Mrs. Charles Smith, black velvet and lace; Mrs. R. Gray, black lace frock with gold shawl; Mrs. S. Langstone, jade green and gold lace; Mrs. Harold King, floral chiffon frock; Nurse Saunders-Jones, black georgette; Miss Janet Murray, Naples blue chenille; Miss C. Murray, black velvet and Paisley shawl; Mrs." P. McGregor, beige georgette with trimmings in deeper tone; Dr. Gladys Montgomery, rose beige crepe fleuri; Mrs. A. Langstone. frock of deep cream lace; Mrs. Lamb (Sydney), black georgette with red shoulder posy; Nurse Soden, black georgette; Nurse Laws, black georgette and shoulder posy; Mrs. Robins, black satin; Mrs. Bassett, pale pink charmeuse; Mrs. F. Schofield, beige coloured georgette; Miss McLeod, mauve crepe de chine; Miss Edmiston, black georgette; Mrs. Potter, amethyst coloured crepe fleuri; Miss G. Fox, pastel green georgette; Mrs. Gooderham, mole coloured georgette; Miss Dawson, navy blue charmeuse; Nurse Scott, beige georgette and lace; Mrs. Webber, black and floral georgette; Miss Straker silver grey georgette; Miss F.Vox. leaf green taffeta frock.
