MANGONUI MONSTERS.
•PORT WITH 810 GAME FISH.
FIGHTER GETS AWAY.
MANGONUI, this day. Messrs. Donaldson and Cox, of Auckland, went out to the waters beyond the Albert Rocks in the launch Merita totry out the big game fishing ground on the outer fringe of Doubtless Bay, Alangonui, and were rewarded by catching on the rod and line a 10ft mako taniwha shark weighing 2751b, and also ft cowfiah, 7ft in length, weighing 1951b. Mr. Donaldson also hooked a very large blauk niarlin swordfish, Which, he ' claims, with the enthusiasm which is characteristic of fishermen, would probably have been the heaviest landed in New Zealand watere. The fish fought magnificently and presented a great sight when he leaped and somersaulted in his effort to free himself. The gear unfortunately fouled, and the monster got away just before dark. The party then returned. They intend going out for another trial with heavier tackle to cope witK the Doubtless Bay monsters.
