THE VEGETABLE GARDEN.
U*e the hoe freely amongst the growing crops. The rains cause the surface of most .oil, to "pack," and it is only by a free use of the hoe that the surface can be kept loose and aerated. The moist weather is also ideal for weed growth, and it U only by frequent hoeings that the garden can be kept dean. Celery planting can be done. The tranche, should be prepared some time beforehand. i—™» Celery is best grown in a trench, but there is no need for it to be more than a spit deep. Leeks should also be planted. These give the best results when grown in a trench, but fair result, can be obtained by making holes about a foot deep and dropping a plant into each. Do not fill up the hole. French Beans can still be sown; also a sowing of Runner Beans can be made for late supplies. A sowing of Sweet Corn can be made. Only a few seeds should be sown at a time, as it only remains useable for a few days Sow a few seeds every week. Sowings of Swede, Kohl Rabi, and White Turnips can be made Fut a few stakes and some string round the Asparagus bed to prevent the wind breaking down the "grass." Tomatoes need attention just now; the plant, soon become a mass of growth, if neglected. Keep the plant, to one stem, removing all lateral shoots as they appear. ■
