ATTRACTIONS OF TAUPO.
RECORD TOURIST SEASON. CAMPING SITES WELL FILLED. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) TAUPO, Friday. Taupo has had a splendid holiday ecason. Never before has the place been «o much patronised, and all the hotels report good business. There were probably 150 visiting cars here on Boxing Day and on New Year's Day. Many tourists brought their own bedding and camp gear, and camped on the sites provided for them by the Road Board. One of the sites is at the lake, near the wharf, and the other ie in the reserve on the Waikato bank, right in the town. Nowhere in the world can such a group of tourist attractions be found •s there are within a six-mile radius of the township—magnificent views of the lake, ice-clad mountains, an active volcano, immense steam vents visible 60 miles away, the remarkable outlet of the lake into the Waikato River, the Huka Falls, the Aratiatia rapids, the wonderful Geyser Valley and Waihora Valley, the weird wastes of the Rotokawa eulphur fields, and the curious phenomena of the hot beach of the cold Jake. It is hardly believed by people who have not seen for themselves that for nearly a mile of the lake beach, in the township, one may walk into the eold lake, but one cannot stand still or sit down, on account of the iiot Water rising under one's feet. The "bags" of trout have been fairly feood, and the weight has greatly improved since last season.
