NO GRAVE BUT THE SEA
Memorial To Men Of Merchant
Navy.
LOST IN ENEMY ACTION.
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, November 8.
The memorial that is being erected on Tower Hill, London, by all the Governments of the Empire through the Empire War Graves Commission, is nearing completion.
The memorial commemorates the names of the 12,000 officers and men of the merchant navy and fishing fleets who lost their lives at sea through enemy action, and who have no grave but the sea.
It is hoped that Queen Mary will unveil the memorial on December 12. The memorial was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens who designed the Cenotaph, and is a counterpart to those erected by the Imperial War Graves Commission at Chatham, Portsmouth and Plymouth to the missing men of the Royal Navy, and to that at Menin Gate, and to other memorials erected on the battlefields abroad.
