SWIMMING.

WAITEMATA CLUB. The .annual meeting of the Waitemata Swimming Club will be held on Tuesday of next week. In the report the committee regrets that there-has been a falling off iu the competitive spirit for the past two years. There had been • a loss on each of the three carnivals held'last season, but despite that there still figured is the duo's assets bank balances aggregating £151. In membership the club's roll included 217, of whom ltd were active swimmers. Miss G. Pidgeun, E. Champion and M. Smith had represented the club at the Dominion championships, and eleven provincial championships were held by memoers of the club.

DEVONPORT CLUB.

Bright prospects for the coming season were reported at the annual meeting of the Devonport Swimming Club, presided over by Mr. A. Lane. It was stated in the annual report that water polo, a department of swimming 111 which Devonport has been backward, ia to be reorganised under the direction of Mr. J. Curtayne. Air members of the warships in port are to be constituted honorary members of the club and be eligible for entry at club galas. The main efforts of the club last season were directed to encouraging juvenile swimmers, a primary schools gala being held at Cheltenham Beach, and a party of children taken to Helensville for competitions there. This year an effort is to be made to interest the Herbert Bmith Trust Fund in the providing of a trophy for the winner of a schools' aggregate points competition. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr. E. H. Little; vice-patron, Mr. E. Sharp; president, Mr. A. Lane; secretary, Mr. F. Langley; treasurer, Mr.-S. Thornton ; committee, Messrs. Fish, Brook, Walsh, Hearn. Curtayne, Lowe, Whitley,' Fountain, Titchener and Cook; clulj captain, Mr. J. Curtayne; delegates to Auckland Centre, Messrs. Langley, Curtayne and Lowe; joint handicappers and starters, Messrs. Whitley and Curtayne.
